Thank you for dropping by. My name is Sophia Mavridi and I’m a Digital Learning Specialist & Lecturer in English Language Teaching currently working at De Montfort University in Leicester, UK. I am also involved with NILE (Norwich Institute for Language Education) both on its MA in Professional Development for Language Education ( MAPDLE) and as a Trinity CertPT (Certificate for Practicing Teachers) internal assessor.

I have trained for major organisations such as the British Council, International House, and Macmillan Education and I am a regular keynote speaker at international conferences. My latest volumes are ‘Teaching Experiences during COVID-19 (British Council, 2021), ’‘English for 21st Century Skills’ (Express Publishing, 2020) and ‘Digital Innovations and Research in Language Learning’ (IATEFL, 2020), all of which reflect her keen interest in innovative pedagogies in language education. Finally, I am former Coordinator of the IATEFL Learning Technologies Special Interest Group ( LTSIG) in which I served for six years.

RESEARCH

I’m involved in various research projects related to the application of technology in education with a particular interest in Artificial Intelligence in language teaching and learning, digital literacies development and online teaching. Education & work background


I have been involved in Education since 1998 first working as a primary and secondary school English teacher and later as a Director of Studies, Cambridge examiner, and in-service trainer for major organisations and publishers. 

I have a strong educational background in digital learning and language education and classify myself as a life-long learner. My post-graduate degrees include a Master’s in Educational Technology & TESOL (University of Manchester) and the Cambridge Delta, both passed with distinction. I am currently a doctoral researcher with Lancaster University researching technology-enhanced learning in language education. I have also designed and taught modules in Digital learning (e.g. on the MA in TESOL & Applied Linguistics for the University of Salford in 2017) as well as online courses and modules for higher education (e.g. the pre-sessional courses for more than 500 students for De Montfort University, Centre for English Language Learning in 2020).

I have travelled to over 20 countries training teachers, researching and speaking at various educational conferences. Previous employers and clients include the British Council, International House, the University of Salford, De Montfort University, Cambridge English Language Assessment, Macmillan Education, EAQUALS, GiLE, The Consultants-e, PeopleCert, and many more.
